Pick Your Own

Many Western Pennsylvania farms open their fields for pick-your-own blueberry sessions in the summer.

Many Western Pennsylvania farms open their fields for pick-your-own blueberry sessions in the summer.

There are many things to love about summer eating – ice cream, rosé, and open-air grilling, to name a few – but berry season tops the list. For a few months every summer, Pennsylvanians are blessed with plump blueberries piled on tables at local markets and roadside stands, promising a future of cobblers, jams, and shortcakes.

Make your summer blueberries – before they’re gone for the season! – taste even sweeter this year by picking your own. Plenty of area farmers open their fields for you-pick operations, so sneak a few hours out of your day, grab a bucket, and go!

To help maximize your bounty, we’ve collected a few of our favorite berry recipes. Turn your farm-fresh, handpicked fruits into sweet desserts, salads, and garnishes for cocktails… or eat them by the handful. We won’t judge!
