Caked Up
Cake or pie? It’s a delicious, age-old debate that we’re certain has created feuds to rival that of the Capulets and Montagues, or, at the very least, brought about a heated discussion over the dessert table.
Regardless of where you stand, cake or pie, we believe that ice cream cake deserves a seat at the table. (As a cake lover, I would argue that because ice cream cake does not require a trip to the oven, it can be considered separate from actual cake.)
Specialty ice cream cakes are a staple at many local ice cream shops, so cool off and treat yourself! Trust us, pie lovers – these will triumph over your hatred for cake.
Combinations are limitless at Page Dairy Mart. Not only can you get the classic, made-infamous-by-Dairy-Queen stack of chocolate and vanilla, the ice cream shop will also spin one of their Arctic Swirls (similar to a Blizzard) with a topping of choice and layer it into the cake. We’ve been dreaming about their Oreo version: layers of Oreo-blended ice cream, crispy toppings, and hot fudge, and vanilla ice cream are covered in a light, whipped frosting.
Struggling to choose between a piece of cake or a slice of pizza? Thanks to Klavon’s, you can have both. Their signature ice cream pizzas make a crust from Prantl’s chocolate chip cookies and are topped with heaps of Klavon’s ice cream and icing.
Freshly-baked cake is the starting point for Sugar & Spice. Then comes the classic, gooey fudge, a layer of their homemade ice cream, and finally, their special family-recipe icing.
Northside ice cream shop Happy Day Dessert Factory has ice cream cakes on hand at all times. Try one of their signature flavors like the Birthday Cake, featuring birthday cake ice cream and the Triple Chocolate, showcasing their triple chocolate mousse hard ice cream.
