Taste of the Weekend: June 10 to 13
It’s National Rosé Day on June 12 which means this weekend, we’re looking at the world through rosé-colored glasses.
Though rosé, once named the drink of summer, has lately had some competition from hard seltzers and canned cocktails, at TABLE we still give pink wine the recognition it deserves. Find your perfect rosé -- dry, sweet, fruity, or tart – at one of these city spots. Grab a bottle and get ready to rosé all day.
Grapperia
Just around the corner from Piccolo Forno on Butler Street is Grapperia, hands down one of my favorite city bars. The cozy, dimly-lit wine bar has a well-thought-out selection of cocktails and wines, along with an almost overwhelmingly large menu of grappa and amari. You can’t go wrong with the Sangiovese Rosato Casamatta from Bibi Graetz – made with only Sangiovese grapes, the rosé is delicate, slightly acidic, and full of refreshing fruit flavors.
SPiLL The Wine Bar
Bloomfield’s wine bar, SPiLL, fills their shelves with bottles from some heavy-hitting Italian vineyards: Collefrisio, Danimi, and Conte d’Attimis-Maniago.
Snag a seat in their Liberty Avenue tasting room to sample the pink offerings available: a rosé from Collefrisio carrying a pleasant fruity scent, followed by a fresh, fragrant taste, and the rosato from Conte d’Attimis-Maniago, a dry wine filled with apple and cherry notes. There’s no question about it: you’ll be leaving with a bottle.
Apericena: A Wine Bar
With over 35 wines available by the glass, you’ll find something to quench your thirst at Apericena. Have the staff build you a custom wine flight based on your tastes, or go straight for the rosés. Their daily happy hour is hard to beat – snag a seat on their outdoor patio and sip your favorite glasses for half-off.
Threadbare Cider
Okay, okay, we know. This isn’t wine. But, Threadbare Cider does have a rosé-inspired cider, Bouquet de Rose. To some, the 7% semi-dry cider made with hibiscus and rose hips and said to be a “modern interpretation of rosé” may be better than the actual thing. You won’t know until you try!
Senti Restaurant & Wine Bar
Pages of the drink menu at Senti are taken up by their extensive wine list, boasting bottles, glasses, and – perhaps best of all – pours from their Enomatic wine machine.
The star of the lounge, this refrigerated wine system keeps each bottle at a controlled temperature. You’ll find some of their most interesting wines inside, though the fun part is self-serving from the card-operated machine. While I can’t promise you’ll find a rosé to taste from the Enomatic, there’s a handful on their wine list. Pick from the blush-pink-colored, bubbly Collefrisio Brut Rosé, or go for a bottle of the bright and zesty California-made Joseph Jewell Pinot Noir.
