Sunny Brunch: Just Do It!
Attention Pittsburgh: the sun is shining. Time to get out of the house and look around! Time to start thinking about emerging from your winter hibernation.
May we recommend brunch? Recently opened by husband and wife team Jacqueline and Nathan Schoedel in the Union Trust Building at 501 Grant St. The menu is a spritely mix of fresh flavors and good ideas served Monday-Saturday. Their brunch and breakfast game is strong: bagels, grits, pancakes, french toast, and a beautiful range of sandwiches like their grilled many-cheese miracle with caramelized onions. DI ANOIA’s EATERY
Sunday brunch is a THING at Di Anoia’s Eatery at 2529 Penn Avenue. Start with the fluffy Italian version of a donut, the Zeppole, and graduate into Steak Florentine or Spaghetti Pie. THE CAFÉ CARNEGIE
The space is beautiful. There’s art upstairs and dinosaurs and diamonds down the hall. In this fresh and airy boite at 4306 Butler Street, diner classics lead the way: you can get a delicious breakfast sammie, a burger, a fried chicken sandwich, hash, pancakes, scrambles, and the like. THE COMMONER
Brunch buzzes down here at The Hotel Monaco at 620 William Penn Place. Get a reservation. Also get The Uncommon Toast (essentially a rich bread pudding slathered in Wigle maple syrup and sweet cream) or the Avocado Crab Toast. If you’re virtuous…the Little Gem salad is nice.
